Greetings,
We’ll get right to the point. You are the hero in our “equation.”
Consider the stunning math that only 12% of the population in the U.S. is metabolically healthy. Chances are you are already grappling with health issues, or fighting a battle for a loved one. You wouldn’t be receiving this email if you hadn’t already taken steps to think out of the box and seek creative and informative ways to help yourself or the ones you love. It is a stark reality that if you aren’t advocating for your own health and the health of your family, you are at the mercy of systems that just doesn’t seem to be able to connect the dots (for example, the food and health care systems). We know this from our own personal experience, and from the thousands of questionnaires, letters, and testimonials received by the Hypoglycemia Support Foundation.
So, thank you for inspiring us to be here for you. We are so grateful to have you as a member of the HSF community, and for the joy of sharing your hero’s-journey for health and well-being.
The Hypoglycemia Support Foundation (HSF) was founded nearly 40 years ago by Roberta Ruggiero, an amazing patient advocate who had to suffer a medical nightmare before receiving a proper diagnosis. We hold the simple yet profound belief that conditions such as low blood sugar offer us early warning signs, like a canary in the coal mine, that can spare us years of suffering and chronic metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, a condition that affects over 50% of the U.S. population.
Modern life is throwing our health some pretty serious punches right now – and we want you to know the HSF has your back. This is one reason we added nine new Advisors to our HSF Leadership this year alone. We are proud to attract such an amazing group of world class leaders and advocates.
Dr. Lynn Lafferty, HSF Medical Advisor with Roberta Ruggiero, Founder and President of the Hypoglycemia Support Foundation.
“I have a metabolic autoimmune disorder that sometimes manifests as hypoglycemia. This means I am often unable to do some things that most people do every day. Managing my condition often makes me feel like an outsider, and because my health is severely impacted by diet, many foods that my friends and family eat are simply not possible for me without reactions. Having the support, community, and education that the HSF offers me is inspiring and sustaining – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Having heard from the HSF about how Continuous Glucose Monitors are helping to better manage blood sugar health, I started using the device. Wow! I can’t believe how much I’m learning – how certain foods affect blood glucose. I look forward to sharing my experience with the supportive HSF staff and community. I’ve been to conferences with HSF and am so impressed that world class doctors are among the growing list of HSF Advisors. The nutritional education and freedom to access information is worth its weight in gold. For many people this is life changing.”

The HSF infographic on hypoglycemia brings a new level of awareness and understanding to a condition that is suffered by many needlessly. Understanding and resolving hypoglycemia requires a holistic approach that looks at diet, lifestyle, stress and medical conditions. The HSF has created an educational resource worthy of sharing with my patients as well as with other doctors.
“Struggling with hypoglycemia? Perhaps your doctor suggested that you change your diet and avoid certain ingredients, but you feel that that’s quite a demanding task? Our start-up forged a technology solution that enables you to filter out all the worst ingredients in the food supply – especially those that the HSF believes put you at greatest risk for hypoglycemia. Currently in “stealth mode”, the “Perfact” platform is now available to the HSF community on an exclusive basis – and it is 100% free.”
– Andreas Kornstädt, Founder of Perfact and HSF Technology Advisor
The HSF continues to build a supportive online community that nurtures and protects. We are building our online community and analytics show we are currently reaching over 200,000 people per year with our educational content. We offer multiple ways to connect:
- Private Facebook Hypoglycemia Support Group (500+ members and growing)
- Public Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn pages
- HSF website offers blogs and podcasts, FAQs, and in-depth articles
We accomplish all this with no local, state or federal funding. As the HSF approaches its 40th anniversary year, we ask for your support and encouragement. Now is a time of year when you may be making donations to your favorite causes. Please help us continue to be a champion for you and so many others affected by serious health challenges, by providing engaging and educational information, tools, and strategies that support optimal health and well-being. Your financial support is vital for us to continue to do this work. Our HSF community is getting close to 10,000 members; if each of you donated just one dollar, we would easily reach our year-end goal! It is easy to make a donation – just click here.
