“Hypoglycemia is an ‘early warning system’ for all the chronic degenerative diseases.” Dr. Harold Harper labeled the syndrome Glucose Metabolism Dysfunction (GMD). Glucose metabolism disorders are pathological conditions in which the blood glucose cannot be maintained within the normal range, such as in HYPOGLYCEMIA (low blood sugar) and HYPERGLYCEMIA (high blood sugar), alias the blood sugar roller coaster. Etiology of these disorders varies. At the center of the type 2 diabetes pandemic, blood sugar dysregulation is the inability of the body to effectively control blood glucose levels. Insulin plays a key role in regulating blood glucose levels by restraining endogenous glucose output from the liver and promoting blood glucose uptake by cells throughout the body. For reasons mostly related to poor diet, cells become insulin resistant, and a cascade of negative metabolic responses ensues.
